Yoshio Mochizuki is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Before entering national politics, he served four terms as the mayor of Arida City, Wakayama Prefecture, where he was noted for his aggressive fiscal reforms, the revitalization of local healthcare through the establishment of new maternity facilities, and the promotion of international educational exchanges with Dubai. He also implemented innovative policies such as allowing municipal employees to engage in side jobs during peak citrus harvest seasons to support local agriculture. In 2025, he was elected to the House of Councillors as an independent candidate after leaving the Liberal Democratic Party, following a dispute over the party's candidate selection process in the Wakayama constituency.
