Shinji Morimoto is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Hiroshima Prefecture constituency. A graduate of Doshisha University and the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, he began his political career as a member of the Hiroshima City Council, where he served three terms. Since entering the national legislature, he has held key roles, including Chair of the Committee on Economy and Industry and, as of 2026, Election Campaign Committee Chair and Organization Committee Chair for the Constitutional Democratic Party. Morimoto is known for his focus on social welfare and regional revitalization. He supports the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples and opposes the revision of Article 9 of the Constitution.
