Born in Jordan, he immigrated to the United States as a child and spent decades working in the Yonkers Public Schools system as an educator and superintendent. As a legislator, he is the first Jordanian-American to serve in the Assembly and has focused on issues including public health, transportation safety, and community advocacy. He is also a captain in the New York Guard.
