Prior to her current role in state parliament, she served as a councillor for the City of Townsville from 2008 to 2012. In 2014, she was recognized for her community contributions when she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year by Crime Stoppers Queensland. She was born in North Queensland on June 4, 1969, and attended St Joseph's Catholic School in Mundingburra.
