A member of the Labor Party, she holds ministerial portfolios for Veterans, Youth, and Small Business in the Victorian Government. She holds the distinction of being the first person of Turkish origin and the first Muslim woman elected to the Victorian Parliament. Before her state-level career, she served as a councillor and three-time mayor of the City of Brimbank.
