Neil Kinnock is a British politician who has served as a member of the House of Lords since 2005. A prominent figure in the Labour Party, he served as the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party from 1983 to 1992, during which time he worked to moderate the party's platform and combat internal extremism. Previously, he was a Member of Parliament for Bedwellty and later Islwyn from 1970 to 1995, and he served as a Vice-President of the European Commission from 1999 to 2004.
