Nuno Melo is a Portuguese politician and lawyer who currently serves as the Minister of National Defence and as a member of the Assembly of the Republic. Born in 1966 in Vila Nova de Famalicão, he has been the leader of the CDS – People's Party since 2022. Previously, he served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2024, where he was active in committees concerning civil liberties, agriculture, and anti-corruption efforts. A conservative, he is known for his advocacy of national sovereignty, traditional family values, and his opposition to abortion and euthanasia.
