Paul Biya

Profile

Paul Biya is a Cameroonian politician who has served as the President of Cameroon since 1982. A career bureaucrat, he previously held the position of Prime Minister from 1975 to 1982 under President Ahmadou Ahidjo. His long tenure is characterized by the consolidation of power, the transition from a one-party state to a multiparty system in the 1990s, and the implementation of structural adjustment programs. While he has overseen significant infrastructure development, his administration has faced persistent international criticism regarding electoral integrity, human rights, and the handling of the Anglophone crisis.
