Paul Boateng is a British Labour Party politician and member of the House of Lords. A former civil rights lawyer, he served as the Member of Parliament for Brent South from 1987 to 2005 and became the United Kingdom's first Black Cabinet Minister in 2002 when appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Following his parliamentary career, he served as the British High Commissioner to South Africa from 2005 to 2009. Throughout his career, he has been a prominent advocate for social justice, international development, and the rights of children.
