Before his election to the Senate, he served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2006 to 2024, where he held the position of Deputy Speaker. Prior to his legislative career, Moriarty worked as an investigative journalist for KYW-TV and WCAU-TV, earning over 30 Emmy Awards for his consumer advocacy reporting. He also served as the Mayor of Washington Township from 2005 to 2008. Throughout his political career, he has focused on issues such as government transparency, property tax relief, and public safety, including the sponsorship of legislation requiring police dashcams.
