Paul Schmidt is a German politician and physicist currently serving as a member of the Bundestag for Baden-Württemberg. Born in 1966 in Karlsruhe, he holds a doctorate in physics and spent much of his professional career in the nuclear energy sector, including roles at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and as an operations physicist at the Philippsburg nuclear power plant. Schmidt entered politics in 2013, joining the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party due to his support for nuclear power. He has served as a city councillor in Karlsruhe since 2014 and currently chairs the AfD parliamentary working group on nuclear power.
