Petyr Witanow

Petar Vitanov is a Bulgarian politician currently serving as a Member of the National Assembly and chairman of the Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group. An economist by training, he previously served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2019 to 2024, where he was active in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Formerly a prominent figure within the Bulgarian Socialist Party, he became a vocal critic of its leadership before eventually aligning with the Progressive Bulgaria coalition. His political career has been characterized by a focus on social equality, judicial reform, and environmental policy.
