Peter Wirth

Peter Wirth is an American attorney and politician currently serving as a member of the New Mexico Senate, where he has held the position of Senate Majority Leader since 2016. Born in Stanford, California, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law. Before his election to the Senate in 2009, Wirth served in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2005 to 2009. Throughout his legislative career, he has focused on fiscal policy, including proposals to reform corporate tax structures, and has held leadership roles on the Senate Conservation and Judiciary committees. He continues to work as a professional mediator alongside his legislative duties.
