
Raimonds Bergmanis

Raimonds Bergmanis is a Latvian politician and former professional athlete who currently serves as a member of the Saeima, the parliament of Latvia. Before entering politics, he gained international recognition as a successful Olympic weightlifter and strongman, competing in three Olympic Games and winning the World Muscle Power Championships in 1997. Following his athletic career, he worked in television and served as a vice president of the Latvian Olympic Committee. Bergmanis entered the political arena in 2014 and previously served as the Minister of Defence of Latvia from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the Latvian Green Party, which is part of the Union of Greens and Farmers alliance.
