He assumed office in November 2017 following a special election to succeed his late wife, Gina Mason, in the state legislature. Outside of his political career, Mason is a business owner who operates Rick Mason Excavation. He resides in Lisbon Falls, Maine, with his family, which includes his son, former Maine state Senator Garrett Mason.
