Rieko Fukushima is a Japanese politician currently serving her third term as a member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, representing the Setagaya ward. Before entering politics, she worked for 22 years as a researcher at Toshiba, where she led the development of the world's first glasses-free 3D television and received numerous awards, including the 21st Century Invention Award. Since her election in 2017, she has focused on digital transformation in government, evidence-based policy making (EBPM), education reform, and support for women and minorities in the workforce. She is a strong advocate for utilizing advanced technology to improve administrative transparency and public service delivery.
