Robert William Bishop is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Utah House of Representatives, having been selected to fill a vacant seat in 2026. Previously, he served as the U.S. Representative for Utah's 1st congressional district from 2003 to 2021 and was a member of the Utah House of Representatives from 1978 to 1994, including a tenure as Speaker of the House. A prominent Republican, Bishop is known for his advocacy of federalism, his critical stance on the Antiquities Act, and his efforts to transfer federal public lands to state control. Before his long political career, he worked as a high school teacher in Utah.
