Robert Kaliňák is a Slovak politician currently serving as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Slovakia since October 2023. A prominent member of the Direction – Social Democracy party, he previously served as the Minister of the Interior from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2012 to 2018, becoming the longest-serving minister in modern Slovak history. Before his political career, he was a successful entrepreneur in the restaurant and publishing sectors. His tenure has been marked by significant political influence as well as controversy, including his resignation in 2018 following the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and recent scrutiny regarding asset disclosures.
