Ruth Davidson is a Scottish politician and a life peer serving as a member of the House of Lords since 2021. She previously served as the Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party from 2011 to 2019 and as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Glasgow and later Edinburgh Central. A former journalist for the BBC and a veteran of the Territorial Army, she is widely credited with modernizing the Scottish Conservative Party and strengthening its electoral performance during her leadership. Ideologically centrist, she was a prominent voice in the campaign for Scotland to remain within the United Kingdom during the 2014 independence referendum.
