Soichiro Takashima is the Mayor of Fukuoka, serving his fourth consecutive term since his initial election in 2010. Born in Oita City in 1974, he began his career as a television announcer for KBC Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting, where he gained public recognition as a news anchor and personality. Transitioning into politics, he became the youngest mayor in Fukuoka's history at the age of 36. Throughout his tenure, Takashima has focused on transforming Fukuoka into a global startup hub, promoting deregulation through the National Strategic Special Zone program, and advancing digital transformation (DX) within municipal administration. He is also known for his proactive approach to disaster management and urban development, including the 'Tenjin Big Bang' redevelopment project. Takashima maintains a neutral political stance, often running as an independent, and has been recognized for his efforts in fostering international partnerships and sustainable urban growth.
