Ryuzaburo Furukawa is a Japanese politician currently serving his fourth term as the Mayor of Shimabara in Nagasaki Prefecture. Born in 1956, he began his political career as a member of the Shimabara City Council, where he served two terms starting in 2003. He was first elected mayor in 2012, defeating the incumbent, and has subsequently secured re-election three times, notably winning his last three terms unopposed. In addition to his mayoral duties, he holds several leadership roles, including Chairman of the Nagasaki Prefecture Mayors' Association and Chairman of the Shimabara Peninsula Geopark Council.
