Koh Tanaka is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture. A graduate of Rikkyo University, he began his political career as a member of the Ichikawa City Council and the Chiba Prefectural Assembly before serving three terms in the House of Representatives. Throughout his career, he has been associated with several political groups, including the New Party Sakigake and the Democratic Party of Japan, before eventually running as an independent. As mayor, he has focused on local policy initiatives such as the implementation of free school lunches for all students. He is known for his advocacy of selective married couple surname systems and has authored several books on political and social issues.
