Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is an Indian politician and former career diplomat currently serving as the Minister of External Affairs of India. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he has represented Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha since 2019. Before entering politics, he had a distinguished 38-year career in the Indian Foreign Service, serving as India's ambassador to China and the United States, and as Foreign Secretary. He is recognized for his expertise in nuclear diplomacy and his role in shaping India's modern foreign policy, including the negotiation of the India–United States Civil Nuclear Agreement.
