平山佐知子

Sachiko Hirayama is a Japanese politician and former freelance announcer currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Shizuoka Prefecture, she began her career at NHK Shizuoka, where she worked for 16 years and gained prominence as a news anchor. She entered politics in 2016, initially elected as a candidate for the Democratic Party of Japan, but later became an independent. Known for her focus on local issues in Shizuoka, she secured re-election in 2022 as a fully independent candidate. Throughout her parliamentary career, she has maintained a non-partisan stance, occasionally supporting conservative candidates in leadership elections while advocating for policies such as selective separate surnames for married couples and gender equality measures.
