Salma Zahid is a Canadian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Scarborough Centre since 2015. Born in Coventry, England, and raised in Pakistan, she holds a master's degree in educational management and an MBA. Before entering federal politics, she worked for the Government of Ontario and served as a community organizer. Zahid is noted for being the first MP to wear a hijab in the House of Commons, a decision she made following a successful recovery from Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Politically, she has advocated for the rights of racialized women and has taken positions on international issues, including calls for the prosecution of Israel regarding the Gaza war.
