Saugata Roy is a veteran Indian politician and a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress. Currently serving as a Member of the Lok Sabha representing the Dum Dum constituency, he has had a long and distinguished parliamentary career. He previously served as the Union Minister of State for Urban Development from 2009 to 2012 and held the position of Union Minister of State for Petroleum in the Charan Singh ministry. Before his national parliamentary roles, he was elected to the West Bengal State Legislative Assembly five times. A former professor of Physics, Roy holds a post-graduate degree in Physics and a degree in law from Calcutta University.
