Stephen Jolly is an Australian politician and socialist activist who currently serves as the Mayor of the City of Yarra. Born in London and raised in Ireland, he migrated to Australia in 1985 and has been a councillor for the City of Yarra since 2004. Throughout his career, Jolly has been a prominent figure in left-wing politics, having been involved in the Militant faction of the Australian Labor Party and later the Socialist Party. He is known for his advocacy on issues such as public housing, anti-capitalism, and his vocal opposition to the demolition of public housing towers. Jolly has also been a witness to historical events, including the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, and has led various community campaigns, including the 'Yarra for All' independent group.
