Junko Sugimoto is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Aichi Prefecture constituency. Born in Nagoya, she graduated from Aichi Shukutoku University with a degree in English literature. Before entering politics, she worked as a wedding venue staff member and later managed a construction and interior design business with her husband. Sugimoto became politically active in response to government policies during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically questioning vaccination campaigns and movement restrictions. She ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives in 2024 before winning her seat in the House of Councillors in 2025. Her policy platform includes support for the regulation of certain forms of entertainment media, such as manga and anime, to protect children.
