Hirofumi Takinami is a Japanese politician and former Ministry of Finance bureaucrat currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Fukui Prefecture constituency. Since November 2024, he has served as the State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. A graduate of the University of Tokyo and the University of Chicago, Takinami previously held positions as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Chair of the House of Councillors Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. He is known for his focus on regional revitalization, the promotion of smart agriculture, and the advancement of nuclear energy policy, including the replacement of aging reactors. Takinami is also active in diplomatic efforts, particularly regarding Japan-Taiwan relations, and has been a vocal advocate for constitutional reform.
