A member of the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), she previously served as a city councillor in Niterói, where she was the most-voted candidate in the 2016 municipal elections. Petrone is a former public school teacher with a background in history and social work. Her political platform focuses on human rights, women's rights, racial equality, and LGBT advocacy. She has been a prominent voice in national politics and a close associate of the late activist Marielle Franco.
