Profile

Koichiro Tani is a Japanese politician and professional opera singer currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Higashiosaka, Osaka, in 1981, he pursued a career in music, graduating from the Mannheim University of Music in Germany and working as a lecturer and opera performer. He entered politics after becoming inspired by the rhetoric of Sanseito leader Sohei Kamiya regarding COVID-19 vaccine policies and historical perspectives. After unsuccessful bids for the Toyonaka City Council in 2023 and the House of Representatives in 2024, he was elected to the Diet in the 2026 general election representing the Hyogo 6th district via the Kinki proportional representation block.
