Currently serving as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha representing the Chidambaram constituency, he is a prominent Dalit leader known for his advocacy of Ambedkarite and Dravidian philosophies. His political platform centers on ending caste-based discrimination and opposing Hindu nationalism, which he argues threatens Tamil identity. Before entering politics, he worked in the forensic department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. He holds a PhD in Criminology and has authored several books and appeared in Tamil films.
