Thomas Kutschaty is a German politician and a long-serving member of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia, representing the constituency of Essen I – Mülheim II since 2005. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he previously served as the Minister of Justice for North Rhine-Westphalia from 2010 to 2017. Between 2018 and 2023, he held the roles of SPD parliamentary group leader and opposition leader in the state parliament. Additionally, he served as the state chairman of the NRW SPD and as a deputy federal chairman of the SPD. Before entering full-time politics, he worked as a lawyer.
