Till Backhaus is a German politician and the longest-serving state minister in Germany. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he has served as a member of the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since 1990 and has held various ministerial portfolios in the state government since 1998, currently serving as the Minister for Climate Protection, Agriculture, Rural Areas and Environment. Before entering politics, he worked as an agricultural engineer. Throughout his long career, he has been involved in regional agricultural policy and party leadership, though he has also faced public criticism regarding his doctoral thesis and certain controversial public remarks.
