Tim Carpenter is an American politician serving as a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing the 3rd Senate district since 2003. A long-time member of the Democratic Party, he previously served 18 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1985 to 2003. Throughout his legislative career, Carpenter has held various leadership roles, including serving as President Pro Tempore of the Senate. Known for his advocacy in public health and labor issues, he gained national attention in 2011 for his role in the protests against collective bargaining legislation. He is one of the few openly LGBTQ members of the Wisconsin Legislature.
