Alek Skarlatos is an American politician and former Oregon Army National Guard soldier who currently serves as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives for the 4th district and as deputy minority leader. He gained international prominence in 2015 for his role in thwarting a terrorist attack on a Thalys train in France, for which he received the Legion of Honour. Before his election to the state legislature in 2024, Skarlatos pursued careers in media and made multiple unsuccessful bids for the U.S. House of Representatives. Politically, he is known as a strong pro-life advocate and has expressed support for the deployment of federal forces during civil protests.
