Tim Scott is an American politician and businessman serving as the junior United States Senator from South Carolina since 2013. A member of the Republican Party, he is the first African-American senator to represent a Southern state since the Reconstruction era and the first to serve in both chambers of Congress. Before his Senate tenure, he served on the Charleston County Council, in the South Carolina House of Representatives, and in the U.S. House of Representatives. Scott is known for his conservative fiscal policies, advocacy for economic development, and his focus on individual responsibility and opportunity.
