Toshiko Abe is a Japanese politician and nurse currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. She has held several high-level government positions, including Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and has served as State Minister in various ministries, including Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Foreign Affairs. A former vice-chair of the Japanese Nursing Association, she holds a doctorate from the University of Illinois Chicago. Politically, she supports constitutional reform, the restart of nuclear power plants under new safety standards, and the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples. She has been elected to the Diet eight times, representing the Liberal Democratic Party.
