Uwe Schünemann is a German politician and a long-serving member of the Landtag of Lower Saxony. Born in 1964, he began his political career in local government in Holzminden before entering the state parliament in 1994. He served as the Minister for Internal Affairs and Sport of Lower Saxony from 2003 to 2013. Throughout his career, Schünemann has been a prominent advocate for restrictive internal security policies, including the expansion of video surveillance and data retention measures. He currently serves as the Deputy Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU faction in the state parliament.
