Velislava Petrova-Chamova

Velislava Petrova-Chamova is a Bulgarian politician serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2026. She previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2022 to 2023, where she was responsible for Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen Area. Holding a degree in Microbiology from the University of Bristol and a doctorate from the Wellcome Sanger Institute with research in infectious diseases, her career includes working with the United Nations on combating AIDS and coordinating global vaccination efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as collaborating with the World Health Organization and the World Bank.
