Vincenzo Cuomo

Vincenzo Cuomo (1858–1935) was an influential Italian physician, climatologist, and scientist who played a pivotal role in the development of Capri as a renowned health and tourist destination. After graduating with honors in medicine from the University of Naples in 1881, he served as a municipal doctor and health officer in Anacapri and Capri. Cuomo was a pioneer in the field of climatotherapy, conducting extensive research on the therapeutic benefits of the island's climate and establishing a sophisticated meteorological observatory. His scientific contributions, which included studies on infectious diseases and hygiene, earned him honorary citizenship of Capri in 1905 and international recognition in the fields of hydrology and physical therapy.
