Virgilijus Alekna is a Lithuanian politician and former world-class discus thrower who has served as a Member of the Seimas since 2016. Born in Terpeikiai, he achieved legendary status in athletics by winning two Olympic gold medals in the discus throw (at the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Games) and a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, alongside multiple World Championship medals and titles as Lithuanian Sportsman of the Year. Following his retirement from sports, he transitioned into politics, aligning with the Liberal Movement and securing election to the national parliament, where he continues to hold office.
