
Virginia Bottomley

Virginia Bottomley is a British Conservative Party politician and life peer who has served as a member of the House of Lords since 2005. Previously, she was the Member of Parliament for South West Surrey from 1984 to 2005, during which time she held several high-profile cabinet positions, including Secretary of State for Health and Secretary of State for National Heritage under Prime Minister John Major. Before entering national politics, she worked as a social scientist, researcher for the Child Poverty Action Group, and a psychiatric social worker. In addition to her parliamentary duties, she has held various leadership roles in academia and the private sector, including serving as Chancellor of the University of Hull and as a senior executive in the headhunting industry.
