Airi Watanabe is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Tokai proportional representation block. Born in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture, in 1982, she graduated from the Faculty of Science at Toho University. Before entering politics, she managed a tutoring school and worked as a fitness instructor specializing in dance and yoga. Her political career was motivated by concerns regarding public health policies during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically regarding mask mandates and vaccination. As a mother and animal welfare advocate, she has expressed critical views on Japan's current pet protection systems. She was elected to the Diet in February 2026 after running as a candidate for the Sanseito party in the Aichi 5th district.
