Kazuo Yana is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives, currently in his sixth term. Born in Koganei, Tokyo, he graduated from Keio University and completed a master's degree at the University of Tokyo. Before entering national politics, he worked as a secretary to a Diet member and as a researcher at the Japan Economic Research Institute. Throughout his career, Yana has held several government positions, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Cabinet Office, and State Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Politically, he is known for his conservative views, supporting constitutional reform and the necessity of nuclear power, while opposing selective separate surnames for married couples and same-sex marriage. He has been involved in controversies regarding political funding and has faced criticism for remarks concerning LGBT rights.
