Yoshiaki Shinhara is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as the Mayor of Kure, Hiroshima. Born in 1950, he graduated from the University of Tokyo and began a long career in the Ministry of Finance, holding various high-level positions including Vice Governor of Toyama Prefecture and Director-General of the Japan Mint. He was first elected Mayor of Kure in 2017 and has since secured re-election, most recently in 2025. His administration has focused on local economic revitalization, particularly following the closure of the Nisshin Steel Kure Works, and managing municipal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
