Özgür Özel is a Turkish politician and pharmacist who has served as a Member of the Grand National Assembly for Manisa since 2011. He rose to prominence as a vocal advocate for miners' rights following the 2014 Soma mine disaster and served as the parliamentary group leader for the Republican People's Party (CHP) from 2015 to 2023. In November 2023, he was elected leader of the CHP, leading the party to significant gains in the 2024 local elections. Özel is a proponent of Turkey's European Union membership and has been a central figure in opposition efforts against the current administration.
