
Abdelkader Lahmar

Abdelkader Lahmar is a French politician and educator who serves as a Member of the National Assembly for the 7th constituency of the Rhône and as the Mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin. Born in Lyon in 1971, he spent nearly three decades teaching economics and management at a vocational high school in his hometown. A long-time activist in working-class neighborhoods, he co-founded the Mouvement d'initiative vaudais and has been a prominent voice on issues of social justice, secularism, and the fight against discrimination. Elected to the National Assembly in 2024 and as mayor in 2026, he is known for his vocal opposition to policies he views as stigmatizing toward Muslim youth and his active engagement in local community development.
