Abdourahamane Tchiani is a Nigerien military officer and politician who has served as the President of Niger since March 2025. Previously a career military officer, he commanded the Presidential Guard from 2011 until 2023. In July 2023, he led a coup d'état that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and established the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland. Under his leadership, Niger has withdrawn from ECOWAS, formed the Alliance of Sahel States, and shifted its foreign policy toward closer alignment with Russia.
