Akhtem Chiygoz is a Ukrainian politician and a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, representing the European Solidarity party. A prominent Crimean Tatar activist, he served as the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People. Following the 2014 annexation of Crimea, he was arrested by Russian authorities and sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in pro-Ukrainian protests, before being released in a prisoner exchange in 2017. He currently serves as the chairman of the subcommittee on ethnopolitics, rights of indigenous peoples, and national minorities within the Ukrainian parliament.
